Below is a chronological list of some of the many awards and accolades bestowed upon the Miami Conservancy District over the years. These awards are for excellence in engineering, watershed management, environmental protection, recreation, dam safety, and more.
1922. Miami Conservancy District’s flood protection system was awarded the 1922 Engineering Record’s distinguished “Project of the Year,” placing it in a category with other international engineering design feats like the Brooklyn Bridge (1883), Eiffel Tower (1889), Empire State Building (1931), Golden Gate Bridge (1937), Gateway Arch (1965) and the Channel Tunnel (1994).
1972. A National Civil Engineering Landmark Award - by the American Society of Civil Engineers
1975. Environmental award for efforts in environmental management from the Region V, United States Environmental Protection Agency.
1976. Water Conservationist of the Year by the League of Ohio Sportsmen
1976. A trophy from the Dayton Power Boat Squadron for development of river boating areas in the Miami Valley in 1975. The award is presented annually to the organization or the individual that has contributed the most to boating in that area in the preceding year.
1977. Award of Distinction from the Institute of Environmental Sciences, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
1981. Ohio Society of Architects - for development of the General Plan for Recreation, Phase II, which included the Dayton low dam and the hard edge project.
1983. Dayton Baha'i Community Human Rights Award
In keeping with the United Nations theme for 1983 - "Water", the Dayton Baha'i Community presented the 1983 Human Rights Award
1983. United States Department of Commerce Institutional Award
In recognition of 50 years of weather observation in cooperation with the National Weather Service.
1985. Ohio Planning Conference, for excellence in planning.
1985. American Institute of Steel Construction, for excellence in use of steel for construction of the cable-stayed bridge.
1997. Midwest Regional Award of Merit from the Association of State Dam Safety Officials
Because of continuous multi-million dollar expenditure program to maintain the safety of five large dams, and in recognition of the expertise represented by its Board of Consultants to assist in carrying out this program.
2002. Ohio Dam Safety Organization (ODSO) “Best Maintained Dam” award for Germantown Dam
2004. Community Preservation Award of Merit
From The Ohio Historic Preservation Office of the Ohio Historical Society for the rehabilitation of the 1916 Miami Conservancy District office building, "an outstanding contribution to historic preservation in Ohio."
2005. PRism Award of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America Dayton Chapter
For the The 2004 Play It Safe! river safety campaign
2005. Program Achievement in Education award from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft
For the The 2004 Play It Safe! river safety campaign
2005. PRism Award of Merit
For the communication plan developed for the 2004 readjustment of benefits.
2005. Ohio Dam Safety Organization (ODSO) “Best Maintained Dam” award for Taylorsville Dam
2019. 25 Years Groundwater Guardian Recognition Award
From the Groundwater Foundation for protecting and preserving water resources for over 25 years, and ongoing participation in Dayton's multi-jurisdictional source water protection program.
