Test Your Well
Residents can bring samples of their private well water to be tested – for free – for nitrates and other contaminants at Test Your Well events.
If you get your water from a private well and not from a public water system, you need to know if its water is safe to drink. Experts recommend you get your water tested regularly. Your county may provide assistance.
As a service to private well owners, MCD fosters a confidential screening program called Test Your Well. Scheduled events allow you to bring a sample of your well water to be tested – at no charge – for the presence of nitrates, arsenic, and bacteria.
More than 1,800 people have participated in Test Your Well events. MCD partners with local health departments, soil and water conservation districts, FFA (Future Farmers of America), high school environmental studies classes, and Ohio State University Extension to present Test Your Well.
Test Your Well events are scheduled throughout the year in various counties. For a current schedule or more information on Test Your Well, contact Mike Ekberg
