Dayton Caretaker

Miami Conservancy District (MCD) is seeking a driven and organized individual to join our team in a supervisory role as the Dayton Caretaker.


Maintains the flood protection dam, levees, embankments, assigned lands, structures and facilities by mowing; trimming vegetation, hedges and trees; removing vegetation; applying herbicides; removing trash and debris; and performing necessary repairs. Monitors and reports rainfall, river stages and monitoring wells. Operates and maintains tractors, mowers, hand and power tools, and other equipment.

Supervises full-time and temporary employees. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems; and coordinating with other supervisors. Responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to employees and the worksite.

Keeps accurate records and submits timely reports. Subject to 24-hour call out.


The qualified candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of five years related experience, two of which must be supervisory experience. Must have valid driver’s license. Required to possess, or obtain within six months, Class B CDL with tanker endorsement and pesticide license (core, category 5 and 8).
