Use extra caution on Great Miami Trail near RiverScape
Great Miami River trail users in Dayton should use caution near RiverScape MetroPark. The Miami Conservancy District (MCD) is repairing a stone wall along the levee behind the Dayton fire station at Main Street and Monument Avenue.
The stone wall, which dates back to as early as the 1890s, is bulging. A concrete retaining wall built behind the stone wall is unstable and putting pressure on the stone wall, causing it to protrude. The project includes removing blocks of stone from a section of the stone wall, installing foundation anchors through the concrete retaining wall, installing a drainage system between the two walls and replacing the stone blocks in the stone wall.
The trail is expected to remain open during construction, although there may be temporary closures, says Kurt Rinehart, MCD chief engineer.
Construction is expected to last two months.
