Test Your Well event Aug. 14

What’s in your water? Butler and Preble County residents can find out at an upcoming Test Your Well event. This one will be a bit different from those in the past. The event is limited to the first 40 people who sign up by Aug. 13, with reservations taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Schedule an appointment with either the Butler SWCD at 513-887-3720 or the Preble SWCD at 937-456-5159. During the appointment, you will watch a video on how to correctly collect a well water sample and you will be given your sampling bottle. Then drop off your well water sample on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miami University, Shideler Hall, in Oxford. No need to find parking as this will be a drive-thru event. You can receive your results by email or US mail.

Your well water sample will be tested for nitrates and bacteria. For more information, contact the Butler SWCD at 513-887-3720 or go to butlerswcd.org/wellwater.

Who should participate?

  •  Is your well more than 40 years old?

  •   Is it less than 50 feet deep?

  •   Has it been more than a year since the water was tested?

  •   Does an infant or pregnant women drink the water?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, call for an appointment.

This event is a partnership of the Butler and Preble Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Miami Conservancy District, and the Miami University Institute of Environment and Sustainability.
