Life jackets are life savers — wear it!
National Safe Boating Week is May 19-25.
Life jackets save lives.
According to the United States Coast Guard’s latest recreational boating statistics:
- 80 percent of boating deaths were due to drowning.
- 83 percent of victims were not wearing a lifejacket.
- Two-thirds of victims were good swimmers.
“We believe that wearing a life jacket is the simplest way to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones while enjoying a day on the water,” said Peg Phillips, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council and lead organization for the Safe Boating Campaign.
